McMinnville senior midfielder Veronica Marquez chases down a ball in the Grizzlies win on Thursday. Marquez had two goals in her final game at Wortman Stadium.

It was senior night at Wortman Stadium as the McMinnville girls concluded their Class 6A Greater Valley Conference slate against the Vikings of Forest Grove, and one senior came up big.

Veronica Marquez scored in both halves, with Carlisle Topping adding on a third goal late to propel the Grizzlies to a 3-0 win and an automatic qualification into the state tournament bracket.

Marquez's goals, in the 31st and 52nd minutes of the match, were both assisted by Topping int he same way: with Topping possesing in the corner, drawing in the defense, and Marquez crashing down the middle, right in front of the net. Her first goal was a leaping header, while the second was a second touch with her right foot. Topping added a goal of her own in the 57th on a breakaway.

McMinnville (8-3-3, 5-2-1 GVC) will play on the road for the first round of the state championships Saturday, Nov. 1; time, venue and opponent will be determined when the rankings freeze today and the bracket is constructed.
