Newberg fire guts one apartment, damages another

NEWBERG — A two-alarm fire Thursday morning at an apartment complex at 2700 Haworth Ave. gutted one unit and heavily damaged an adjoining unit.

The call was received at 5:45, and the first units to arrive found one unit fully involved, according to Newberg Fire Department spokesperson Alex Haven.

"Crews went to a second alarm for resources," he said. "They were able to get it knocked down and under control in about 20 minutes. They did a phenomenal job."

Three adults and one child escaped the most heavily damaged apartment. Three adults safetly got tout of the adjoining apartment. An adult male was transported by ambulance to the Providence Newberg Medical Center for treatment of minor burns, Haven said. The American Red Cross is assisting the tenants who have been displaced.

The Yamhill County Fire Investigation Team is working to determine a cause.

Eight pieces of equipment and 30 firefighters from Dundee, McMinnville, Newberg and Tualatin Valley responded to the scene. Equipment and personnel from neighboring departments covered the Dundee and Newberg stations.
