Sheridan woman killed in crash
SHERIDAN — A Sheridan woman died about 3 a.m. Saturday in a single-vehicle crash about three miles west of the city on Highway 18B.
The Oregon State Police identified her as 23-year-old Candace M. Diaz.
Sgt. Brad Hessel gave this account:
Diaz was eastbound in a 1996 Ford Explorer when she edged over onto the shoulder as she was negotiating a left-hand curve.
She overcorrected, causing the vehicle to travel across the westbound lane and into a ditch. It struck a driveway headwall and rolled.
Not wearing a seat belt, Diaz was partially ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office and Sheridan Fire District also responded, along with an Oregon Department of Transportation crew. The highway was closed for about three hours.
