Last Saturday, Sept. 29, over 300 community members turned out for the second annual Community Preparedness Fair of Yamhill County held at Duniway Middle School in McMinnville. It was invigorating to see the genuine enthusiasm and engagement of the citizens who attended. I want to thank the career staff and the volunteers from McMinnville Fire and Police, Yamhill County Search & Rescue, Yamhill County Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T), and Yamhill County Amateur Radio (ARES) who brought their response vehicles to the fair — answering questions and demonstrating equipment that serves this community and region. I also want to thank Willamette Valley Medical Center, the McMinnville School District, City of McMinnville Fire & Police, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Public Health, Office of Emergency Management, and, especially, Jeb Bladine and the News-Register without whose input and commitment, this annual fair would not have succeeded.
