Dundee man arrested on sex charges
Man was living with mother of alleged victims at the time
A Dundee man was arrested by McMinnville police Monday for allegedly abusing two sisters in 2005 and 2006, when they were between 7 and 9. They recently confided in their mother, who contacted police.
Capt. Dennis Marks identified the suspect as Robert Arthur Wirth, 33, of 906 S.W. Alder St. He was arraigned Tuesday in Yamhill County Circuit Court on six counts of first-degree rape, two counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration and one count of first-degree sodomy, all Class A felonies, along with 12 counts of the Class B felony of first-degree sexual abuse. Many of the charges carry lengthy mandatory minimum prison terms under Measure 11.
Deputy District Attorney Michael Videtich asked Judge John Collins to set a high bail, given the number of victims, incidents and counts. Collins, who appointed Carol Fredrick of McMinnville to handle the defense, settled on $750,000.
Wirth was living with the victims’ mother at a McMinnville apartment complex during the period in question.
The younger girl detailed one incident in which she accompanied Wirth to get ice cream for her mother and sister. Instead of driving her directly home, she said, Wirth first stopped at Tice Rotary Nature Park and sexually assaulted her.
When she started screaming and crying, he demanded she keep quiet, she said. She said she was afraid he might hurt her mother and sister if she told.
The older sister said she was abused when her mother was in the bathroom preparing for work or out running errands. Both girls said he made them get into bed with him.
During the course of investigation, they developed corroborating evidence, detectives said.
