Mac boys soccer starts conference with 3-1 win

Jose Pelayo scored twice in the McMinnville boys soccer team’s 3-1 win Tuesday vs. Newberg. Moises Diaz scored late in the second half as well. Miguel Perez-Flores had three saves for Mac. The Grizzlies are now 6-1-1.GIRLS SOCCER

Samantha Russo scored both Tiger goals in the 2-1 win against Mac. The wind caused some delay in the game which allowed the Grizzlies to regroup. Annika Nyquist added Mac’s lone goal in the 70th minute.

Dayton 1, Santiam Christian 0

Elizabeth Ramirez scored the Pirates’ lone goal in the 26th minute Monday. The assist came from Alexa Rubio off a corner kick. Dayton out shot S.C. 10-4.

“Today’s game was very intense and it had the feeling of a playoff game,” Dayton coach Michael Flores said. “We have to expect that every game from here on out will have the same atmosphere.”


Dayton 3, Colton 2

Dayton notched its tenth win Tuesday in a tough road match. The Pirates rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win in five sets. Dayton lost the first two sets 25-19 and 25-15.

Brianna McQuary had 24 assists, while Cooper Ringnalda had 16 kills, helping the Pirates win sets three and four 25-14 and 25-12. Dayton won the final set 15-11.

Amity 3, Sheridan 1

The Warriors dropped the first set 25-20, but came back to sweep the final sets 26-24, 25-19, 25-15. Delaney Cruz led Amity in kills with 11. Kiera Temple had 30 assists while Ariel Dumler had 14 digs.

Mac cross country

Mac competed at the Nike Pre-Nationals in Portland on Saturday. The boys varsity top finisher was Nic McDaniel with a time of 16:45.8 in the 5,000-meter race. McDaniel finished 36th. McMinnville’s top girl was Whitney Rich with a time of 19:35.30. She finished 11th.

The Grizzlies race Saturday at the Harrier Classic in Albany. The race starts at 9:45 a.m.
