Penn Sumner and Jack Anderson were named September students of the month at McMinnville High School for the trait of leadership. They are seniors.
Penn, the son of Heidi and David Sumner of McMinnville, is vice president of the student body and past president of the Interact Club. He is on the cross country team and a member of the National Honor Society, the International Club, Key Club, Ultimate Frisbee Club, Doernbecher Club, Model United Nations Club and Environmental Club. He works for an agent at Willamette West Realty, is volunteering on a local political campaign, went on a Mexico mission trip and plays the fiddle and other folk instruments. He enjoys skiing, traveling, politics and the outdoors. After graduation, he plans to study political science in college.
Jack, the son of Karen Stanford of Carlton and Tom Anderson of Dayton, is president of the student body, managing editor of The Bruin student newspaper, is past treasurer for the Interact and Key clubs and has a 3.94 GPA. He runs on the cross country and track teams. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Model United Nations Club and the Doernbecher Club. He has participated in service trips to Mexico, was an intern at the state capital, works at McMinnville Grand Ballroom and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. He plans to attend college after high school.
Katelyn Prendergast and Anna Kameshima were named September students of the month at Dayton High School for the trait of responsibility. They are seniors.
Katelyn, the daughter of Jennifer and Garett Prendergast of Dayton, is involved in basketball and Pirate 101, a club to prevent alcohol and drug abuse. She is statistician for the girls soccer team and a member of the National Honor Society. She also works at Subway and is a member of Young Life. Once she graduates from high school, she plans to study nursing and psychology at Linfield College.
Anna, the daughter of Munsoon and Ted Kameshima of Dayton, is on the honor roll. As a member of FFA, she twice won state competition for agriculture sales and also won gold in national competition. She is a member of the National Honor Society. She serves as Decorating Committee Chair for spirit week and is statistician for the soccer team. Also, she is a member of a youth group, participates on mission trips and does mentoring. After high school, she plans to study marketing in college.
