Artists, performers featured in Sunday event

"Celebrate Public Art: A Fountain of Culture," featuring a variety of live performances, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, at the fountain next to the McMinnville Public Library. Admission is free.

The third-annual event is part of the statewide Days of Culture event and the Yamhill County Cultural Coalition's "This is Culture."

This year's focus will be on the Soper Fountain, one of the oldest examples of public art in McMinnville, and other historic artifacts located in City Park.

Musicians, artists and dancers will perform, and there will be presentations by writers, historians and librarians. Original music by local composer James LaRocca will be presented.

The schedule of presenters includes: McMinnville High School choirs; artist Jacquelyn Schroeder; cellists Sherrill Roberts, Rosemary Roberts and Amanda Bierly; Gallery Ballet students dancing to LaRocca's "Within These Walls"; Gallery lyrical dancers; Gallery actors; guitarist Mike Fite; Nicole Obrist and Totem Schriver describing the community effort that went into the play structure; Steve Rupp; Rose Marie Caughran, Mae Butler and others associated with t
